FAQs for All SummerEdge Programs

What is your camper to staff ratio?

Our camper to staff ratio of 8:1 ensures individual attention for all campers.

What is the daily attendance procedure?

Campers are expected to attend their programs each day. Their instructor will take attendance promptly at the beginning of each program’s day. If your camper will be absent or tardy we ask that you please inform your child’s instructor and the SummerEdge office by emailing us at summeredge@mcleanschool.org at least 24 hours in advance if possible.

Is there homework?

There is no homework for SummerEdge campers with the exception of those in our One Room Schoolhouse program.

Will my camper have any breaks/physical activity during their program?

Breaks are built into each SummerEdge program and based on age appropriate attention spans. Campers will also have the opportunity to engage in our organized Daily Physical Challenge.

Where do I drop off and pick up my child?

Parents may drop off or pick up campers at McLean School. At dismissal, a sign with your child’s first and last name should be visible on your dashboard. Staff will greet and escort children to and from their cars, however there is parking available on campus should you decide to come into the building. Otherwise, we ask that you wait in the carpool line around the circle until your child is dismissed to ensure a smooth and timely carpool experience for all!

Can I celebrate my child’s birthday at camp?

If your child has a birthday during camp and you would like to send in a treat to celebrate, we will need it to come in its original packaging with the ingredients listed on it (for this reason, store-bought treats are preferred). We recommend popsicles, as the ingredients allow for more campers with food allergies to enjoy them as well.

Do you provide daily transportation?

No, SummerEdge does not offer daily transportation/busing. Families are asked to drive their child to and from campus each day. On our online application families may indicate whether they would like to be added to a Carpool List. This list will be organized by Zip Code and shared with other registered SummerEdge families closer to the start of camp. Families may then elect to reach out others on the list to potentially set up a carpool on their own.

Are there food restrictions?

Campers must bring a daily lunch, drink and snack that does not require refrigeration or heating. A supervised lunch takes place from 12:00 to 12:20 pm. COVID regulations will dictate indoor and outdoor eating. There is a nut-free table available, however please note that we are not a nut-free campus

FAQs for Virtual Programs

Are there rules/recommendations regarding attire and online learning?

Campers are expected to dress appropriately for online camp. Pajamas, halter tops and exposed midriffs are prohibited. As privacy is of the utmost importance, we ask that you please be mindful that your camper is in an appropriate room/setting for at-home learning as free from distractions as possible.

How will campers access their Virtual SummerEdge programs? Is it safe?

SummerEdge will be using Zoom for Education as our primary virtual learning platform. Our IT staff will continuously monitor the platform for safety updates and make sure we are kept current on important information.

How will my child switch from class to class?

We will provide each camper and their family with a detailed schedule including live links for each day of the week. We will use Zoom breakout rooms at times for movement breaks and creative activities.

What will my camper do between 12:00-1:00 pm if they are registered for full days of camp?

Each day we will have a thirty minute break for lunch from 12:00-12:30 pm. Then, from 12:30-1:00 pm, all campers are invited (but not required) to join us for the Daily Physical Challenge. This is an opportunity for campers to get some exercise in a fun and engaging way under the guidance of our SummerEdge athletic instructors.
